Are You In Search Of Inspiration? Check Out Three Wheeled Buggies

Three Wheeled Buggies

Whether you're looking for a buggy to jog with or just a nifty stroller to tackle strolls around the neighborhood, three-wheeled buggies offer great mobility. Their compact design makes it easy to maneuver even in tight spaces.

For an easy ride, opt for a pram that has air-filled tyres and look for models with 360deg front swivel wheels. However, they are prone to punctures, so make sure you are prepared with an repair kit.

Sturdy frame

New figures show that three-wheeled buggies, that emblem of the noughties, which were more expensive than common sense, are in steep decline. Four-wheelers have replaced them, and are more versatile and easy to drive, while also looking stylish.

The larger the wheels are the more your buggy will be able to deal with bumpy and uneven pavements. The larger wheels on both the front and back also makes it easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or on difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried the buggy out with the newborn baby and a 3-year-old child and found it extremely robust. It handled cobbles, grass and rough pavements, as well as dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath said it felt solid to push, and very solid on difficult terrain. The tyres, that are inflatable and require to be pumped up regularly and have a suspension built-in. This was extremely comfortable for my kids.

Another thing to consider is the size of the seat and shape. The seat should be large enough to allow your child to be comfortable and to allow them to lie down. Certain three-wheel buggies come with the option of lying flat, which allows your child to lie flat and face you, whereas others only allow a face-to-parent one.

The Roma Atlas is a great alternative for off-road or wet walks. This buggy is suitable for a single child as early as birth and can be modified to accommodate two children as your family expands. It is suitable for infants and toddlers until age 4 and includes a bumper bar, raincover, an improved 5-point harness, and a large cushioned seat unit. Storage options are also great with a large storage basket, zip pockets on the hood and an attractive pouch on the rear of the seat unit.

Larger wheels

Larger wheels means that your buggy will have more stability on rough terrain - ideal for buggies that are off-road. Additionally, they help you maneuver the pushchair through narrow spaces. Many three wheeled buggies feature the front wheels that swivel to assist you in maneuvering around tight corners, whereas others are designed for running and come with fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability at the speed at which they can be pushed. This is also helpful in the event that you hit the roots of a tree or stray road, as the front wheel can be lifted up a bit to prevent you from hitting it.

Many 3 wheel pushchairs feature air filled tyres which means they can handle many different terrains and are far more flexible than 4-wheeler. They are also lighter. However, they're prone to punctures so you'll need to have a repair kit, spare inner tube and pump in your bag.

Our top 3-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux.  3 wheeler pushchair www.pushchairsandprams.uk  feature larger wheels that, according to MFM reviewer Kath, "perform really well on gravel tracks, grass and market town cobbles" and can easily go up and down kerbs. They also have a suspension system which in her words "smoothes out bumps very effectively".

The downside of having bigger wheels is that they make some buggies quite broad and make it difficult to get through narrow spaces. This can be an issue if you're using it as a jogger or you need to be able to get through narrow doorways when out and about. Most models come with small folding options that permit you to take off the front wheels and store them more compactly.

Easy to manoeuvre

One of the major advantages to a three wheel buggy is that it's much easier to maneuver, especially with a child on the way. The way in which they are constructed means that the front wheels turn on a dime and are incredibly easy to manoeuvre and are ideal for tricky terrain such as parks, cobbles, bumpy pavements and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried a 3-wheeler with her toddler and newborn and wrote: "The Terrain was a pleasure to maneuver over tough terrain, with the swivel front wheel being especially helpful. I was also impressed with how well it handled kerbs when using the hand-operated break. I found it to be extremely stable when going downhill or over uneven ground."

The only downside of this incredible maneuverability is that the three wheel buggy's bigger wheels sometimes mean that it can struggle in tight spaces - something to consider when you live in a metropolitan area. If this is an issue, a 4-wheel buggy might be better for you.

Kath the MFM reviewer, also loved the roominess of the buggy. There's a large, easily accessible basket that's huge for a buggy this small as well as an excellent zip-up pouch at the back of the seat and even 2 smaller mesh pockets inside the hood to store your phone and keys.
